the ROCK Report: the final word on P’Dome at the Fair…

Posted Sep 03, 2013 in News

Hey everyone, greetings from the PLEASUREDOME World HQ branch office here on the fringe of Vermont’s famed Northeast Kingdom. It’s another day in paradise and a good time to get out the latest edition of the P’Dome ROCK Report!

If you couldn’t tell from all of the promo, everything (for us) started and ended with the Allied Forces show this past Friday night at the Champlain Valley Fair. It was one of 2013ArmedForcesDayHiResthe most memorable experiences any of us have ever had musically; one of those “bucket list” events that you dream about, but never really expect to ever happen and just a perfect way to end what has been the most amazing summer ever.

The “backstory” to the show  itself was broadcast Friday when WCAX ran a piece on Friday afternoon on “the :30” about the event and the difficulty the Fair is having in bringing national acts to Essex Junction. Costs and availability have become huge barriers and have resulted in substantial losses to the promoters at the Fair, forcing them to look at all options for entertainment. One of the best ideas behind the Allied Forces show was that if it was successful, it would lead to a yearly event at the Fair focusing on local Vermont musicians. Vermont has a great music scene that covers many different genres; there are many great bands that deserve the kind of exposure playing at the Fair generates. Nevermind just having the experience of playing on a stage that big through that massive sound system – pretty incredible.  It’s too early to know what the Fair folks are thinking, but we certainly believe that it’s a worthy event worth continuing.

Many, many thanks are in order. My apologies in advance to anyone forgotten in the list, but we have A LOT of ground to cover.

First and foremost, thanks to Mike Trombley and Quadra for including us on the bill. These guys have been absolutely amazing to work with and have become great friends to us all – thanks for all of your support – let’s do it again!

Thanks to Chris Ashby, Jeff Davis and the folks at the Champlain Valley Fair for taking a chance on a show like this and for including PLEASUREDOME in the inaugural event. It was an amazing experience that would never have occurred without your support…

During the summer when we really began to focus on getting the word out on the show, we reached out to a few local friends and bands and asked that they help us promote the show. The response was what has become the norm in the local scene; a resounding “yes.” A huge THANK YOU to Scott Guptill, Gary Greeno and the rest of Justice, Todd Fournier, Jon Dapo, Pete Gonyer and Mindtrap, Rob Myers and Last Words, Chris LaRocque and AudionX, Taylor Arsenault and Area 51, Rock the 802 and of course Pat Ashton and Vermont Concert Connection. Your help was greatly appreciated – we can’t thank you enough; hopefully all of you will be on that stage next year….

We would be extremely remiss if we didn’t recognize the best crew around and who are as important to PLEASUREDOME as any other member. Mark Lucia (and Tony Wyand) manned that massive PA Friday night and managed it like that was their everyday system. They make us sound good week in and week out and allow us to focus on performing for all of you versus having to manage everything plus perform. Thanks guys, we couldn’t do it without you…

TONS of pics and videos were taken Friday night – some highlights are included below as well as some links for complete sets of photos. Of course HUGE thanks go to resident genius Todd Dunn for documenting the event as only he can.

So what’s next??? Six weeks off is what’s next! We did have a couple of shows booked over the next few weeks, including the grand opening of Venue at their new South Burlington location. The Venue grand opening was delayed with some technical issues and with no new date scheduled as of yet. We are very excited to play the new club and hope to have something more to announce in the coming weeks.

The next scheduled PLEASUREDOME show promises to be HOT! P’Dome returns home to Essex Junction to ROCK On Tap on Friday, October 11th. For those just starting to follow P’Dome who are considering going to On Tap, know a couple of things: first, it’s a great club, never a cover and a great place to go for a long evening. Get there early, have dinner, take in one of the acoustic acts that play until 8pm and pre-game with a couple of cocktails. P’Dome goes on at 9:30pm. These shows generally are SRO events and often have long lines to get in – avoid the lines by getting there early!

Tour Schedule:

October 11          Essex Junction – ON Tap
October 18          Barre – Gusto’s
November 9       Stowe – private event
November 27    Burlington – Metronome
(Thanksgiving Eve – Metronome Massacre III)

December 13     Barre – Gusto’s (just announced)
December 31     TBA

Last but not least, congratulations to P’Dome soundman Mark Lucia and Sandra Justice on their upcoming wedding this weekend. We couldn’t be happier for the two of them and look forward to raising a toast in their honor on Saturday!
